Speaking of reputation, keno notoriously has a reputation for lousy odds. Nonetheless, I’ll admit that despite its reputation, video keno is actually kind of a fun game…at least when you’re winning! However, if the 5 of 5 card isn’t covered when I hit 6 of the 7 numbers selected, the payout isn’t nearly as good. If I happen to hit the 5 of 5 card as part of hitting 6 of 7 numbers, the payout is nice. Note that, using my “strategy”, payouts for hitting 6 of the 7 selected numbers can vary greatly. Granted, my success this trip can be chalked up to nothing more than luck, but it was definitely a fun ride, especially when all 7 of my selected spots hit shortly after starting just my second keno session of the trip. Occasionally, if things were going well, I’d bump up each of the 4 spot cards to 2 credits each for a total bet of 7 credits. I was playing 25¢ games, and usually I played 1 credit on the 7 spot card, 2 credits on the 5 spot card, and 1 credit on each of the 4 spot cards for a total bet of 5 credits. Plus, I find it a lot easier to keep an eye on all of my selected spots during a game if they’re all located adjacent to each other. So, if I happen to hit the 7 of 7, I’ll also hit the 5 of 5 card, and two 4 of 4 cards. My “strategy” (if there is such a thing in keno) was to play overlapping numbers on all four cards. Hitting 7 of 7 (1 in 40,979) is definitely a long shot, hitting 5 of 5 (1 in 1,550) will happen now and then, and hitting 4 of 4 (1 in 326) usually happens frequently enough to keep you in the game. The choices are endless when playing four card or multi-card keno, but I opted for playing one 7 spot card, one 5 spot card, and two 4 spot cards. There are a bunch of options when playing video keno…single card, multi-card, Caveman, Cleopatra, but I gravitated more toward basic four card keno. However, after reading about others' successes and some subsequent discussion about keno with eloquent trip report extraordinaire, Royal Flusher, my interest was really piqued, so during my trip to Vegas last week I mixed in some keno with my VP and slot play. Prior to this, I had never even considered playing (let alone winning at) video keno in Vegas. I love reading trip reports here at Vegas Fanatics, and a few months ago I started taking an interest in reading about others' experiences with video keno. So, does video keno discussion technically belong in the VP forum or the slot forum?
